Fall Snack Mix Recipe

September 29, 2019 by Lisa Pinney

The grandchildren and I love to make great food and memories for each holiday and Halloween is no exception!  I have never made a chex mix before, so after some research, I decided that we just basically needed a couple of cereals that we would like plus some fun fall ingredients for the add-ins.  I think that’s what makes any chex mix so much fun, is that you can add any of your favorite ingredients like trail mix, nuts, pretzels, candy…anything that pulls your snack mix all together.  This version below is what we came up with and we hope you’re gonna love it!

My handsome assistant with all our yummy ingredients…

our delicious add-ins…

We put our 8 cups of cereal into our turkey roaster…

you can also use a large sheet pan sprayed with nonstick spray…

pour the buttery brown sugar mixture over the cereal…

I hope you have another lovely assistant like my Kaia to give the cereal a few stirs to get all the buttery, brown sugar deliciousness all over the cereal…

then just pop the cereal into the 225 degree oven and bake for 45 minutes,

stirring every 15 minutes…

While the cereal mix is baking, Noah is going to mix all our yummy add-ins together…

Give them a gentle stir…

Doesn’t this just look like fall!

After the cereal comes out of the oven, let it completely cool about 30 minutes or so…

then you can add the delicious candy and nuts…

Pour it in your cute Halloween goody bowl and enjoy with all the little monsters!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups rice chex cereal
  • 4 cups Pumpkin Spice Cheerios
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • Small Candy Corn
  • Trail Mix…we used a Rustic Pumpkin Spice Trail mix that we found at Target
  • Nuts of your choice…we used Pipitas
  • M&M’s White Chocolate Pumpkin Pie flavor

Instructions

Pour the 4 cups of cheerios and 4 cups rice chex into a turkey roaster or a large sheet pan.

Preheat the oven to 275 degrees.

Over low heat, melt the butter and brown sugar.

Pour the brown sugar mixture over the cereal and gently stir to coat.

Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.

While the cereal is baking, pour all the add-ins into a large bowl and gently combine; set aside.

When the cereal comes out of the oven, let completely cool, about 30 minutes or so.

When the cereal mixture is cool, pour in the add-ins and gently stir to combine.

Pour the mix into your favorite serving dish and enjoy!
