Christopher and Amy took us to a great little pizza place
in Navarre a few weeks ago and
their marinara sauce was absolutely amazing!
I wanted to try and duplicate it so I found a great
New York recipe and I think I came pretty close!
This is what we had for dinner last night,
but it would be a wonderful little appetizer too!

Ingredients

  • 28 oz can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 TBSP olive oil
  • 1TBSP unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 1tsp oregano
  • 1tsp basil
  • pinch of cayenne

Method

Step 1

In saucepan, combine butter and oil, melt.

Step 2

Add garlic and onions and cook a few minutes until onion is translucent.

Step 3

Add the tomatoes and break up with a spoon while it's cooking.

Step 4

The marinara should be chunky. Add the spices and sugar. Bring to a simmer and reduce heat to low. Cook until reduced by 1/2 about 1 hour.

Step 5

Season with extra salt if needed. Serve with the cheesy garlic bread.

 Cheesy Garlic Bread

1/2 Loaf pre-made garlic bread

1 1/2-2 cups shredded cheese, mozzarella
or cheese of your choice
1/4 cup mayo
dried parsley flakes
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Put half the loaf on a baking sheet.
In another bowl, combine  shredded cheese with the mayo.
It will be a little hard to mix but a fork helps
to combine it all well.
Next, spread cheese/mayo mixture on top of the garlic loaf.
Sprinkle with some dried parsley flakes for a bit of color.
Bake on 425 degrees for about 12-15 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Cut into slices and serve with the marinara.
